Botswana: The local authorities and Health Inter Sporting Association (LAHISA) organised a fund-raising football tournament. The officials have shared several images from the event on their social media, to promote the welfare of the community.
The fundraiser was hosted at the Fire Station grounds as a precursor for SAIMSA games to be hosted in Namibia. The officials have shared that the members of the community participated in a variety of activities as a unit.
The community wants to prepare the youngsters of the community to face the rest of the continent during SAIMSA games. The leaders of the nation were delighted by the amount of success of the fundraiser exercise for the success.
The leaders have shared that the fundraiser exercise was hosted for the preparation and training of the Gaborone team. The officials have also confirmed that the tournament was open to all the members of the community.
The people could come in large number to watch and support their favorite sports idols and encourage them to perform
The officials have shared that the tournament included different sporting codes with teams coming from all sections of the society. The sports events featured during the day include, Football, Volleyball and Netball.
The four teams which took part in the fundraising initiative were Team Gaborone, Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs (MLWA), Botswana Examination Council (BEC) and Gaborone District Health Management Team(DHMT).
The Tournament ended with Team Gaborone Men’s volleyball being crowned champions after winning 3-1 against MLWA. Team Gaborone women’s volleyball were also crowned champions after winning 2-0 against MLWA whilst in the football results BEC was crowned champions after defeating MLWA 5-4 in a penalty shootout.Closing out the day of events in netball MLWA won 31-11 against GCC to secure the championship.
This tournament was Team Gaborone’s last preparations as they prepare to travel to Namibia and compete in the 2024 SAIMSA Games which will be hosted in Namibia on the 22nd to the 27th of September 2024.
