Malawi: The president of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera hosted a Presidential Dinner at Kamuzu Palace in honour of the players representing Malawi in the Four Nations tournament. The Match between Malawi and Kenya will be hosted on Saturday.
The president of Malawi was delighted with the development in the sports sector of the country. The President noted that the development of the sports sector aligns with the 2063 Vision of Malawi. The head of state noted that it is an important part of human capital development strategy.
The President of Malawi delivered a brief address at the Presidential dinner and expressed his pride in the country’s sportspersons’ capabilities. The President also pledged to foster strong relations with the rest of the world through initiatives such as the Four Nations tournament.
“We are eager to host international sporting competitions like this Four Nations Tournament to strengthen our ties with other nations that we want to do business with for the growth of our economy,” he said.
President Lazarus Chakwera also talked about the various developments that the administration of the country has made in terms of sports. Some of the constructions that President Chakwera highlighted included Griffin Saenda Complex, the National Aquatic Center.
The head of state also added that several other stadiums are being constructed across Malawi. These construction projects indicate the government’s determination in sports development.
The presidential dinner hosted by Chakwera was attended by a number of government officials. All the attendants took turns to encourage the participants ahead of their upcoming clash with Kenya.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire, also extended his best wishes to the participants. He announced that the senior tournament will kick off on Saturday. The Malawi Flames will play against Kenya’s Harambee stars, and the Zimbabwe Warriors will face Zambia’s Chipolopolo.
Both matches will be played at the Bingu National Stadium (BNS). Meanwhile, Fleetwood Haiya, president of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), also delivered a brief address at the event.
He appreciated the government of Malawi for its efforts in developing the country’s sports infrastructure. The officials shared glimpses of the presidential dinner and hailed Chakwera for taking the initiative to boost the team’s morale.
