Malawi: Police force at Chitipi in Lilongwe have arrested two men for the crime of sexually assaulting a 25 year old girl. One other culprit from this group of suspects is on the run for the offence.
According to the police officers, the incident allegedly happened around 20:00 hours on May 11, 2025. The victim was on the way to her home when the suspects, three in number, confronted the girl.
The incident was reported to the Lilongwe Police Station on the day that the incident originally happened. The Public Relations Officer, Hastings Chigalu confirmed the incident to the media and revealed all the developments that have taken place.
The police officer also identified two out of the suspects as Gideon Samuel, who is 20 years old; Steve Robert, who is 22 years old. The third suspect whose name is still unknown to the media is at large.
“The three suspects met the victim when the woman was walking home alone from a grocery shop. Together they grabbed the victim and carried her into a nearby unfinished building where, in succession, all three of the boys raped the woman.
“The suspects used their hands to hold the victim’s mouth shut and prevented her from shouting for help,” he said. The incident was reported to the police within hours of the act of violence. The police has started their investigation and also arrested two of the three culprits.
On the other hand, The victim was referred to the One Stop Centre at Kamuzu Central Hospital for medical examination and treatment. The medical examination and tests results have confirmed rape.
Chigalu also said that during an official police interrogation, the suspects admitted to have raped the woman. However the two boys who are in custody blamed alcohol saying they committed the offence under the influence of the intoxicating liquor.
Meanwhile, the two arrested suspects have been charged with rape and will be taken to court soon.
Samuel is a resident of Njikho Village while Robert comes from Chimphangu Village. Both the suspects are residents of Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe District.
