Zambia: The Police Force of Central Province has arrested two women from Lusaka over a widely circulated social media video. The arrested women have been identified as Patricia Banda and Chilufya Makasa.
The first suspect, Patricia Banda is a 28-year-old woman of Chipata Compound in Lusaka. Meanwhile, the second suspect Chilufya Makasa is 29-year-old resident of Rock-view Chalala.
The police officials made the arrest after a video of the former uttering insults was widely shared on various social media platforms. The police spokespersons have come forward to share the details about the incident.
The officials have revealed that the video was shot on January 30. Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga notes that the dual have been jointly arrested and charged for Hate Speech, contrary to Section 65 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act number 2 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia.
He says Makasa has been separately charged with Publication of Information, contrary to Section 54 of the aforementioned law. The suspect was charged with producing and circulating a video using his Generation Television and One Generation media.
Hamoonga adds that Banda has been separately charged with the offence of use of Insulting Language, contrary to Section 179 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
He says the Zambia Police Service takes incidents of public disorder seriously. Accordingly, the officials reiterated the force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
The Police Public Relations Office urging citizens to conduct themselves responsibly and peacefully, He asked them to refrain from engaging in actions that may incite the public.
