Malawi: The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has asked the Broadcasters operating in the Central region to be professional. The organization has further asked them to strictly adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in their broadcasting content licenses.
The organization made the call for strict adherence to the rules during the regional meetings on broadcasting ethics and professionalism. The meetings were hosted in Lilongwe to develop the communication sector.
A similar meeting was also hosted in Blantyre on Monday. The series of meetings will take place at various venues across the country. The meetings of the broadcasters will be concluded in Mzuzu on Friday.
The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority Deputy Director of Broadcasting, Kelton Masangano was also present in Lilongwe during the meeting. He emphasized the need for broadcasters to familiarize themselves with the specific terms and conditions of their licenses.
The meeting aims to ensure that all the members of the broadcasting fraternity can work honestly and effectively.
“I urge you to take time and read and fully understand the terms and conditions of your licenses,” said Masangano.
He highlighted that maintaining high ethics and standards is of high importance in broadcasting sector. They add to the credibility and professionalism of media houses, allowing the consumers to trust the information that is being emanated.
During the meeting, MACRA’s Deputy Director of Legal Services, Dan Chiwoni delivered a brief yet significant presentation. He informed the participants of the meeting about the General Terms and Conditions of Content Licenses.
As per the officials, the aim was to provide broadcasters with comprehensive insights into the regulatory framework governing their operations. Several other media experts also delivered brief presentations on critical topics.
In the meetings, media experts Baldwin Chiyamwaka and Wisdom Chimgwede presented on ethics and effective strategies for handling talk-shows. The Malawi Communications Regulatory authority believes that the meetings are important.
The officials stated that they serve as a crucial platform for fostering a commitment to professionalism and regulatory compliance among broadcasters.
