Mauritius, Rose Hill: Some 250 inhabitants residing in the regions of Plaisance, Trèfles, Camp Levieux, Rose Hill, and the vicinity benefitted from free medical screening, on Saturday, 05 August 2023, at the Municipal Hall in Camp Levieux, Rose Hill.
This initiative was a joint initiative of the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, and the National Empowerment Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
The Minister of Social Integration, Social Security, and National Solidarity, Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, and other eminent personalities were present at the launching of the screening activities.
The objectives of this exercise were to, namely:
- Provide free and high-quality medical services to poor and vulnerable people.
- Raise awareness amongst the community.
- Promote early detection of risk factors of diseases to enable earlier treatment, especially for those who are not likely to seek medical attention.
Furthermore, this initiative aims to sensitise and educate the public, particularly the vulnerable and deprived groups who often have less awareness regarding diseases they might be suffering from. This Free Medical Screening, therefore, provided vulnerable families with free guidance regarding their health issues.
This exercise is carried out regularly across different regions of the island to sensitise the population to the need and importance of physical activities for their well-being. The number of Free Medical screenings carried out in the regions of Rose Hill since 2019 amounts to five.
The campaign included, amongst others: General consultation; Blood Glucose tests; Body Mass Index tests; Counselling; Dental Counselling; Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening; Electrocardiogram test; and Blood Donation.
Moreover, an awareness campaign was also organised by the Crime Prevention Unit of the Mauritius Police Force on the occasion.
