Mauritius Ministry and MBC partners for Live Coverage of IOIG 2023 in Madagascar

Mauritius: The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation and the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) signed, today at the seat of the Ministry in Port Louis, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the live coverage of the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) which will be held in Madagascar from 25 August to 03 September 2023.

Mauritius: The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation and the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) signed, today at the seat of the Ministry in Port Louis, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the live coverage of the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) which will be held in Madagascar from 25 August to 03 September 2023.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint. The signatories were the Director General of the MBC, Moonendra Nudhi Sharma Ramsurrun, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Marie Joseph Ramsamy.

In his address, Minister Toussaint said that the MoU with the MBC will allow the population of the Republic of Mauritius to watch the Games live on national TV in the comfort of their homes. He expressed hope that a spirit of fervour and enthusiasm will be created around the Games when families will gather and follow the Games live and encourage the Mauritian athletes participating.

He further informed that a big delegation of 680 people from Mauritius will be leaving this week namely on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, for the Games in Madagascar.

As for the Director General of the MBC, he said that the national TV has deployed a lot of efforts to facilitate the live coverage of the IOIG 2023 so as to allow the population to watch the different games and disciplines live.

Launching of NYC Website

Following the signature ceremony, the National Youth Council’s (NYC) website was launched in the presence of Minister Toussaint, and the President of the NYC, Keshikah Sohan.

In his address, Minister Toussaint said that the launching of the NYC’s website is yet another achievement for the Council. He highlighted that the website provides information as regards all the activities and work undertaken by the NYC and the Ministry. He stated that a lot of information needs to be disseminated to the population and the youth of the Republic of Mauritius, hence the website’s usefulness.

He also pointed out that with the launching of the IOIG 2023, the website will enable the population to follow the Games in real-time since photos of the Games and athletes will be uploaded regularly.

Minister Toussaint concluded by commending the team who worked on the website and said that it will be very useful, particularly for the youth of the Republic of Mauritius.
