Cape Town: Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis celebrated the festival of colours ‘Holi’ with the Indians living in the City. He enjoyed celebration and acknowledged the vibrancy of the festival, spreading happiness.
Lewis shared the glimpses from the festival and posted them on his all social-media platforms. He expressed his feelings by adding a caption that says, “Loved celebrating Holi ‘festival of colours’ with our Indian community in Cape Town!”

He extended his gratitude towards the officials who invited him and said, “Thank you for the invitation to join you. I wish Hindu Capetonians a blessed Festival and may this time bring you joy.”
Glorifying the beauty of the City Mayor Lewis appreciated its diversity and enlightened that, “Cape Town’s wonderful diversity is a part of what makes this the best city in the world.”
“We celebrate it and treasure it,” mentioned Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis. He also thanked the Indian community residing there and said, “Thanks India in South Africa!”
Reportedly, India observed ‘Holi’ – the festival of colours on Saturday, March 14, 2025 and Indians residing all over the world celebrated it with lot of joy, fun and delicious sweets.
Considering this, CGI Cape Town took the opportunity and had the pleasure of having Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis while celebrating the festival with the Indian community!
Holi, the festival filled with splashes of vibrant colours, togetherness, fun and festivities was celebrated with great enthusiasm.
Recently, a large number of members of Indian community and friends of India from all walks of life, enthusiastically participated in the event that was organised at the renowned Milnerton Beach. The event also included elderly people and children. CGI Cape Town thanked City of Cape Town for their support in making this happen.

Holi
The festival celebrates the eternal and divine love between the Hindu God Krishna and his consort Radha, signifying time of rebirth and rejuvenation, while also embracing the positive and letting go of negative energy. It is a major Hindu festival that is celebrated as the Festival of Colours, Love and Spring.
Additionally, the day also signifies the triumph of good over evil, as it commemorates the victory of Vishnu as Narasimha over Hiranyakashipu. Holi originated in the Indian subcontinent and is predominantly celebrated there. It has also spread to other regions of Asia and parts of the Western World through the Indian Diaspora.
Holi also celebrates the arrival of spring in India, the end of winter and the blossoming of love. It is also an invocation for a good spring harvest season. It lasts for a night and a day, beginning on the evening of the Purnima – the full moon day, falling on the Hindu calendar month of Phalguna, which falls around the middle of March in the Gregorian calendar.
