Zambia: Monze-based youngster, Mayor Nchimunya, has expressed his concern about the appointment of elderly offers in positions of power. The youngster believes that the positions should employ youth members so that the administration can make fresh and innovative decisions.
The youngster noted that they have seen the trend of Political Parties appointing elderly individuals to positions meant for youths. He shared that many of these positions need fresh, young individuals to benefit the communities.
He highlights positions such as District, Provincial and National Youth Chairperson, are usually held by individuals who are past their youthful age. The situation is unfortunate as the people of the country are being withheld from benefitting from modern innovations.
Nchimunya talked to the media about his views on the situation. He claimed that denying youths of leadership roles is wrong. He noted that giving preference to the elderly lead young people to refrain from participating in various activities owing to intimidation.
The people of the country, accordingly, are not working in productive leadership roles, which can negatively impact development.
Accordingly, Mayor Nchimunya has encouraged youths to always aspire for leadership roles. He said that young people are the driving force of development. He further noted that 70% of the country’s population falls under the category of being youth.
The political leaders of the country have also expressed their agreement to the views of the Monze based youngster. The political leaders of Zambia asked youngsters of the country to participate in the Youth Day celebrations.
United Party for National Development-UPND Monze District Youth Chairman Cassius Mangani has encouraged his fellows to participate in this year’s Youth Day Commemorations.
Mangani announced that Monze Central Constituency will hold their celebration at the District Administration Office. Member of Parliament, Jack Mwiimbu is also expected to attend the event.
He adds that youngsters in Bweengwa Constituency will also commemorate the day in Luyaba. The area Parliamentarian, Michelo Kasauta is set to attend the event. He adds that the Moomba Constituency will commemorate the day at Nabukuyu.
