South Africa: Famous player of the national cricket team SA Proteas and captain Temba Bavuma was distinguished as alumnus of St. David’s Marist Inanda. He was proudly honoured by his former school as they took this initiative to rename the existing oval to his name.
The renowned oval will now be known as the Temba Bavuma Oval. The school has shaped the development of the captain’s cricketing career and is now a major landmark to inspire the future generations of cricketers in the town.
Reportedly, St. David’s Marist Inanda renamed its main cricket field as the Temba Bavuma Oval on Tuesday, which was formerly known as the McGregor Oval. The field’s name was changed to honour Bavuma, who finished his early education at the Johannesburg institution in 2007.
During the ongoing ceremony, entire school assembled to honour Bavuma on the newly named oval, where the Proteas cricketer aged 34 was recognised as the guest of honour. The player was last seen in action for the Proteas at the ICC Champions Trophy last month, and will be preparing to lead the Test side in the World Test Championship at Lord’s, in London, in the month of June.

Temba Bavuma at the ceremony expressed his feelings upon receiving the honour and said, “I think my experience of St. David’s was nothing short of positive and surreal.”
“I came to the school, like all kids, with high hopes, high ambitions of achieving and I left the school with a lot of lessons, with a lot of memories that still stand strong in my life,” concluded Bavuma.
He also revealed that how he was first noticed by the prestigious school while playing for a representative side against St. David’s at Under-15 level.
Bavuma also said that the gesture from the school is a massive and beautiful one. He thought that he’ll struggle to really put it into the words. As he was always been a guy who was ambitious, always striving for the stars, for which St. David’s enabled him to do that.
