KwaZulu Natal: The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Mbali Frazer, together with Thamo Mzobe, SASSA Regional Executive Manager, on Friday, 26 January 2024, handed over school uniforms to needy learners of Wembezi High School and Phelelani Primary School in the uThukela District.
The donation is part of the government’s social responsibility programme to empower children from disadvantaged backgrounds. This programme aims to provide support and empower needy pupils across the province.
“Today, we are gathered here to bring support to all our learners around the province, we want you to have a full school uniform in order for you to look beautiful all the time,” said the MEC.
Frazer further stated that learners are very important. “We want them to have a bright future, and we also urged our recipient to take care of these uniforms as a sign of appreciation.”
Moreover, Mbali Frazer handed over school uniforms to identified learners from Bambe Primary, Mhlungwini Primary, and Mabaso Primary School in Ntabamhlophe, Escourt, on the same day, 26 January 2024.
The Government of KwaZulu-Natal established means to ensure that children from disadvantaged backgrounds receive assistance and support for their development.
Through the Department of Social Development and SASSA, the KZN government is helping families that cannot afford uniforms for their children. Learners who cannot afford school uniforms are identified from various schools, and SASSA then buys uniforms for them.
As part of the initiatives of the KZN government to take care of the destitute children, MEC Frazer handed over uniforms to 30 identified learners from three schools to ensure that all learners feel the same when they are at school.
“Family conditions and challenges must never determine how a learner looks like at school because learners must be equal, regardless of their economic background”, said MEC Frazer.
MEC Frazer further motivated learners and encouraged parents to give their children all the support they need because they are this country’s future.
