South Africa: Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Community Safety, Roads and Transport, Jabu Mbalula will be acting as the Premier of Free State from 14 November 2024 until 15 December 2024. The Member of the executive council has taken this responsibility for the next 31 days to accommodate Premier Letsoha Mathae as she recovers from a medical procedure.
The officials have shared that they want to give the Premier an opportunity to recover and heal from her medical condition. The officials have taken to the social media account of the province government. The assumption of the premier’s situation is a proof of the government’s commitment to ensuring continuity and stability of the province’s administration.
MEC Mbalula’s acting as Premier will ensure continuity in governance as her leader is given respite from her duties. This will allow the Premier Letsoha Mathae to focus on recuperating, following her medical procedure.
The officials have shared that the swearing in ceremony for the interim Premier of the Free State was hosted on Wednesday. The officials have shared that the Free State High Court served as the venue for the event.
The event was attended by several officials and social media experts. The leaders have shared that it is important for the administration to continue at an uninterrupted pace. The absence of the Premier will not affect the workings of the provincial government.
The leaders have shared that the swearing in for the interim was officiated by Judge President Cagney John Musi. In attendance, were senior government officials, led by the Acting Director-General of the Free State Provincial Government, Dr. Molefinyana Phera.
Acting Premier Mbalula steps into the role with extensive experience, having served in various capacities in government both locally and abroad.
“I have full confidence that Acting Premier Mbalula, will ensure the continued progress and prosperity of our province, during this period, whilst having the full support of the Executive and officials of government”, said Premier Letsoha-Mathae.
