Northern Cape, South Africa: The MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, on Thursday, 29th of June 2023, visited the bereaved Ngamlane family at Golf View in Mahikeng.

The late Dixon Ngamlane was the Chairperson of the Community Police Forum Board in the Province. He died tragically with his wife Thozama in a road accident on the evening of Monday, 26th of June, 2023.

They were travelling from Potchefstroom, visiting family in Fochville. According to the family, both Mr and Mrs Ngamlane lost their lives at the scene of the accident, whilst survivors of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital.

“This is very saddening. We just had a fruitful meeting last week, a meeting at which Ngamlane actively participated, especially with strategies to fight crime,” said MEC Lehari.

“It is painful, but only God knows. How Ngamlane departed is very painful. We wish the family well during this painful period and express our deepest condolences”, said MEC Lehari, who led the Department delegation visiting the family home in Golf View on Thursday afternoon.

“The Department and the community will deeply miss him at large with whom he worked passionately”, he said. Mr Ngamlane became the Chairperson of the Provincial Community Policing Board in 2016.

Prior to that, he served as Chairperson at Mahikeng Police Station for many years, where he actively participated in community policing activities. Due to his commitment, he was elected as the Chairperson of the Mahikeng Cluster Board in 2000.

The MEC was accompanied by senior managers, including acting HoD Mpho Maleme, Acting Chief Director for Civilian Secretariat for Police, Dikeledi Letsapa, Chief Director for Corporate Services, Dr Ntlhopeng Dikobe and Head of MEC Office, Advocate Tebogo Motlhamme.

The funeral details have not as yet been confirmed and will be communicated in due course.
