Craftsman Kiyang Federick Muluh lines in the heart of the North West Region of Cameroon who has emerged out as demonstrating an outstanding talent set in the domain of sculpture. His original creativity which is titled as “Ki Rackets” depicts his imagination and skill, he has used indigenous resources to craft exceptional tennis-like rackets.
Muluh is a dedicated artist who has committed himself to perfection of this unique combination of art and sport. He explains his artistic skill as inspiration and said, “I have been in this field for quite a while, which has enabled me to grow and enhance my work gradually. These rackets are not the typical ones and they are specifically crafted for two unique sports that I have created.”
He also said that they make stunning additions to the home décor pieces. He gave an example that, “In 2010, Cameroon’s hopes at the World Cup in South Africa were dashed and left a sense of frustration in the air.”
For 36-year-old artist Muluh, it is the premature exit of the Indomitable Lions that sparked a determination to challenge the status quo.
Kiyang Federick has also expressed his rage in criticism of football, conveying that it is a sport or game dominated by the West and seems impenetrable to African triumph.
Muluh envisions to pave the way for African sporting excellence determinately, he embarked on a quest to invent a game that uniquely and only represents Africa.
Kiyang hails from Pinyin in Cameroon’s Northwest region, he has turned his adept sculpturing skills to his innate talent. He has experimented with the craft using sources that are available locally. Materials like cane sticks and plywood are used to craft a variety of rackets that are tailored for unconventional sports and are doubled as decorative pieces.
Muluh explained that he had fashioned the rackets not just for sports but also as ornamental pieces and highlighted his dual-purpose approach to craftsmanship.
He illuminated his journey and narrated that he has always had a knack for innovation since he was young. The World Cup has served as a catalyst for self-discovery.

The adult size (size-2) weighs about 300g and is of 28 to 30 inches long.
