Botswana, Palapye: In a meet and greet session with the retired Botswana Police Association at Palapye on the 18th of October 2023, the Minister of Defence and Security, Thomas Kagiso Mmusi, committed himself to support the Association where they need assistance.

This Association was formed in June 2016 and has one hundred and twenty-six (126) members and is chaired by Former Police Commissioner Norman Moleboge. For his remarks, Moleboge said the organisation is independent and non-political, saying that it is made up of retired police officers in an effort to create bonds and collaborations among former police officers with the view to improve their lives and also to encourage continued respect of law among retired police officers.

For his reciprocal remarks, Minister Mmusi noted the importance of the retired police officials, saying they are an integral part of assisting the Government to fight crime if it can be tapped into their experience.

“If we can stand together, you can definitely help the Government to win against issues of crime; your training and experience is of value to us’’, said the Minister.

The Minister promised the Association his intentions to meet them more often to share ideas and address their concerns. Minister Mmusi then used this opportunity to update the former policemen on what the Ministry is currently doing to fight crime.

“Twenty-eight (28) police stations are on the tender stage, and they will have ten (10) houses per station. On the issue of stock theft, we have recently launched Kgomokhumo at Letlhakeng village; the intention as a Government is to try all we can possibly do to protect the livestock of Batswana; we want Kgomokhumo to be a fully fleshed and well-resourced department’’, the Minister said.

The Minister was accompanied by Botswana Police Commissioner Phemelo Ramakorwane, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and Security, Boikhutso Dolores Botlhole, Secretary for Safety and Security, Kago Ramokate, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Witness Bosija and other senior officials.
