Botswana: The Ministry of Health in the government of Botswana has issued a health warning as the seasons changed. The officials have shared that the population of the country are urged to make sure that they take precautions to prevent infections like the influenza.
The officials have shared that they are recording a rise in influenza-like diseases in the country. The Ministry highlighted the symptoms of the influenza like disease which included:
- A runny nose (with clear mucus)
- Tension Headaches
- Recurrent fevers
- Dry cough
- Sore throat
- General body aches.
The officials have shared that the symptoms can often persist for several months before they ease up altogether. The officials have shard that the population which susceptible to danger in this regard are the children and the elderly population
Influenza- like diseases are not regarded as a dangerous infection, however, it is confirmed that precautionary measures by the Ministry of Health has been actively involved in ensuring that the people can take care of themselves.
The Ministry has been working hard to make sure that the members of the community are sensitized on the right way to prevent infections. The people of the country must follow precautions such as:
- Practicing good hand hygiene for safety.
- The people should practice regular washing of hands with clean water and soap.
- Avoiding the overcrowded places where there is a possibility of infection.
- Wherever possible, the people should consider the use of face masks
- Covering one’s nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing
- Seeking medical attention at the nearest health facility.
The Ministry has confirmed that the people should take the advice of the medical professionals in case they get infections. The change in the weather has been termed as the reason for the increase in the number of infections.
The chilling of weather also records an increase in self medication which is one of the biggest causes of health issues and should not be allowed.
