Malawi: A 41-year-old man hailing from Mitundu in Lilongwe has hanged himself in a restaurant that the couple was operating together. The deceased victim has been identified as Philimon Kadango. The incident happened Thursday.
The relatives of the victim asserted that he and his wife had been having disagreement prior to this day. As a result of these disagreements, the victims were staying temporarily apart from each other.
The victim and his wife were livng separatedly for a few days when some relatives of the couple on either side tried to bring them together. The reconciliation attempt allegedly happened on Wednesday, which was one day before the suicide.
The reconciliation effort did not bear any fruit and the couple allegedly continued to have disagreements. The push from the family made the victim annoyed and he left for an unknown destination, without informing the family.
The disappearance of the victim caused worry within the family who sought to find Philimon Kadango.
The following day, Kadango was found hanging  in the structure the couple was operating as a restaurant business. The discovery was made by the members of the family, who immediately informed the police force.
As per the Lilongwe Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer Constable Khumbo Sanyiwa, the body was found around 6:30. The police force accompanied by the medical personnel from Mitundu Community Health Centre visited the scene.
Postmortem established that death was due to suffocation, secondary to strangulation. The investigation into the incident has been closed as there are no suspicions of foul play. The officials have not shared any reactions from the family of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the people of the country expressed their condolences to the family grieving the loss of their loved one. The incident of suicide can be attributed to both marital and mental health issues for the victim.
There are no conclusive ways of ascertaining how mental health of the victim may have affected his decision to claim his life. The people on social media have acknowledged that they never know what a person is going through.
