South Africa: The Free State MEC for Education, Dr MJ Maboya has congratulated all the participants of the 2024 ABC Motsepe South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod National Championships. Schools’
choirs, conductors, and officials from various schools across the island have represented the province at the competition. The education department of Free state suggests that 800 learners from 17 schools across the province participated in the music extravaganza.
The officials have expressed their pride and appreciation for the success of the students in the national musical competition. The 4-Day National Championship was hosted at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, Gauteng.
The event started on Wednesday, August 07 and ended on Saturday August 10. Reflecting on the success of the students, MEC MJ Maboya appreciated the SASCE.
He believes that the South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) is a very important school enrichment programmes. The officials have shared that the members of the community
The MEC also asserted that the programme will help in promoting unity in diversity, nationality, reconciliation.
The school choral and traditional music competition helps in developing the holistic development of the young learners. The programme also prepares them for constructive lives that are fulfilling to themselves their communities and their country.
This program is a crucial platform for delivering key messages to young people on current challenges and threats faced by South Africa. The MEC for education highlighted some of the challenges including:
- Human trafficking
- Crime
- Drugs
- Alcohol abuse
- Teenage pregnancy.
Learners were competing under various categories including
- Solo section
- Small ensemble
- Mixed choir categories
- Gender pieces
“Congratulations to Nampo Secondary School for obtaining 3rd position in Mixed Double Quartet and position 2 in SATB Chamber Choir. They represented the province well.
Congratulations also go to Nthabiseng Lebuso from Commtech Secondary School for obtaining 3rd position in Soprano/Alto Solo,” Free State Education MEC,” Dr MJ Maboya said.
“Our appreciation goes to the Free State Team for their dedication and commitment and also give our heartfelt congratulations to our amazing choirs for showcasing their inherent talents on the national stage, “ MEC said.
“This is indeed an outstanding performance, and I implore them to continue to fly the Free State flag high,” she said.
