Mokgweetsi Masisi pays tribute to late Namibian President

Botswana: President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi paid a heartfelt tribute to the former and third president of the Namibia. President Masisi made the remarks after the death of the statesman, Hage Geingob.

President Geingob was the head of the Republic of Namibia for nine years. He spent a large chunk of his life in the service of his nation through various offices in the country. Before assuming the office of the President of the Republic of Namibia 2015, he held the office of the country’s Prime Minister.

The president had also served Namibia as the Minister of Trade and Industry.

Geingob was the first Prime Minister of Namibia from 1990 to 2002. He held the office once again for three years starting in 2012 to 2015. The third President of Namibia was a source of inspiration and pride for several of his counterparts. The Botswanan President paid his tribute to the statesman on Wednesday.

Speaking of the Namibian politician, who gave several decades of his life to the service of his nation, President Masisi described him as as a towering figure. President Mokgweetsi added that President Hage Gottfried Geingob was a leading statesman both in stature and accomplishments.

President Mokgweetsi EK Masisi noted that his Namibian Counterpart was a man of unmistakable humility. According to Dr Maisi, President Geingob was always ready to help and guide the leaders who came after him.

“Dr Geingob was never in a hurry to outpace some of the leaders coming well after him who needed to lean and learn from him. According to him, the late President Dr Hage Geingob was a leader who would share his well-orchestrated craft of steering the presidency.

The President of Botswana was one of the first world leaders in the African continent to travel to Namibia after the death of the country’s third president. President Masisi paid his respects and tribute to the notable politician both at his home and his funeral service which was held on February 25.

President Masisi’s gesture to pay a tribute to his former counterpart was appreciated by the fourth and current president of Namibia Dr Nangolo Mbumba. He claimed that the words of Botswana’s head of state are a proof of the strong and  deep relationship that exists between the two nations.

The people of Namibia have also thanked President Masisi for keeping Hage Gottfried Geingob in high regard and respecting him with such words. Further, social media users also appreciated the strength of bonds between Namibia and Botswana who are neighbouring countries.
