Zambia: A 43-year-old woman from Morelight Compound in Livingstone has been raped and assaulted by an unknown man while an accomplice held the victim down. The incident was reported between January 5 and January 7, following which the officials started the investigation.
Southern Province Commanding Officer Auxensio Daka shared some details about the incident. According to the statement of the victim, the incident occurred in the evening hours of January 4.
The victim was coming from Dambwa North where she worked as a maid, when she was confronted by two individuals. The victim has been identified; however, her name is being withheld for her safety.
The incident happened near the Mulwani Primary School.
Commanding officer Daka said the victim reported that she was forcefully raped by two individuals. She has sustained painful injuries on her private parts a deep cut on her forehead. She has also reported that she is having general body pains from the assault. Meanwhile, the perpetrator allegedly used a screwdriver to stab her during the alleged rape attack.
The commanding officer of the Southern Province Police Force, Daka confirmed that the victim works as a maid. She recounted that she was attacked by two male individuals who stole her belongings and cash amounting to K500. Afterwards, the two males forcefully assaulted her and raped her.
“The victim tried to resist the attack, and despite her resistance, she was overpowered and assaulted, with one of the perpetrators holding her down while the other committed the heinous act,” said Daka.
He noted that the victim reported the incident to Dambwa Central Police Post. The officials of the post visited the scene, after which they issued a police report.
The officials have started an investigation into the matter. Notably, the identities of both suspects are unknown. The officials have not made any arrests in the matter.
Meanwhile, the people of the community have expressed their support for the victim after the incident.
