Africa: Morocco has inaugurated the African Police Cooperation Center (APCC) in the city of Salé. This is the first facility of its kind in Africa that has dedicated to coordinate security efforts between African police forces.
The official launch of APCC coincides with the hosting of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and reflects the vision of King Mohammed VI of building sustainable African partnerships. The center will be steering, coordinating and exchanging information that is related to the security of major sporting events.
Reportedly, the center is the fruit of close cooperation among the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), the Commandery of the Royal Gendarmerie and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), as well as the cooperation with the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), as part of the ‘Stadia’ project, that is designed to ensure the security of the sports events.
The new rules and regulation structure involves representatives from national security services and liaison officers from the security services of the 23 countries that are qualified for the AFCON 2025.
In addition to this, the mobile observer teams (Spotters) are working in direct coordination with Moroccan authorities to assist the supporters of their national teams in the stadiums and the host cities.

The APCC has brought together the representatives from the CAF, the FIFA and the participants from Spain, Portugal, ahead of the 2030 World Cup.
Key missions of the center include facilitating the real-time exchange of operational information by enhancing the assessment of risks related to supporters, coordinating preventive measures and interventions on the field. It provides guidance and assistance to Moroccan law enforcement, which promotes a security culture rooted in sporting values and fair play.
This body also plays a central role in digital vigilance by detecting potential cyber threats, especially those which are related to terrorism, extremism and data hacking, in coordination with the INTERPOL cybercrime unit, in order to ensure rapid and efficient intervention and safeguard the sporting installations of all of the facilities to host the fans.
The center has been established in application of the High Royal Guidelines for strengthening of South-South cooperation and the consolidation of joint security mechanisms with the brotherly African.
