Africa: The group of councillors led by MPAC Chairman Mr Sibusiso Mbatha spent two days visiting projects carried out by the Mzinyathi District Municipality to improve people’s health. This team visited Msinga, Nquthu and Ndumeni.
Emsinga went to Kwa Kopi, where the Municipality installed water infrastructure at the cost of R18.2 million. This water supply system is expected to benefit 49 families, which are more than 400 people.
He was moved to Nkubunguni Water Supply Scheme Phase 1 & 2, which cost R27 million. This project includes the connection of 57 taps that will serve up to 500 people.
It was also extended to Nkosi Yama Qamu, where there is a plan to install 1000 toilets. They are waiting to be presented to the public as it is close to the end of their construction.
The MPAC chairman and councillors started in Thelezini, where there is a water supply project in the Thelezini and KwaQwabe areas. This water is installed at R18.2 million will have taps that will be connected to 58 communities, and it is expected that people will be able to drink this water in July this year.
He moved to Thelezini Water Supply, where the water tank was expanded from 250 to 450 in diameter.
This project is also nearing completion, as it is expected to end on February 27 if the rain does not interfere.
Then it was transferred to Vint’s Drift wind turbine in Nquthu, which is also close to being built.
It is managed by Ndumeni, where they visited the Disaster Center, which is currently busy installing ceiling boards and tiles so that the Disaster staff will start entering it this year.
The Chairman of MPAC, Mr Mbatha, says they are happy that so much work has been done. “It was good that we could see these works without hearing about them,” he said.
One of the councillors, Mr Qiniso Ngobese, says that the work clearly shows that the Municipality has continued working. When you see a big water complaint in the community, you think that those in the office are sitting around doing nothing. Even if they explain that the Mayor is doing something, it has yet to be heard. Hope has returned to me after seeing so much work. I hope there will be another round of all the councillors coming to see what is being done to tell people what they know and what they have seen,” he said.
