Mufulira: A Man hammers his son for dead with an axe handle, fleas and hands himself at the Chibolya police post. A Man in Mufulira has hammered his step son, Owen Mumba grade 10 pupil, at Tang Up barracks school, leaving him unconscious with blood profusely jetting from his head.

This happened between 12:00 and 12:30 at house number 69 Jomo Kenyatta Avenue, the former house for the late Ireen Chisala MP Kankoyo constituency.

The younger brother was the only eye witness, narrated that the mother (popularly known as Bana Mulenga) had gone for Church service in Butondo Mufulira Western, and the father Ben Mwansa (caretaker of the Chisalas residency) saw the boy (Owen), put on the father’s shoes which hungered him and he resorted to picking an axe handle to beat the boy on the head three times leaving him half dead.

The man later ran for his life, leaving his step son lying down unconscious, only for Mufulira United footballers who went to buy macscool only to discover him lying in a pool of blood with his head hitting the curb stone.

The Players rushed to St Patrick’s parish, which is direct opposite from their house, for transport help as an effort to get a Mopani ambulance went otherwise after a Misheck Chileya called the 5454 emergency number.

Owen was later rushed to Ronald Ross Hospital by a good Samaritan lady of St Patrick’s parish, where he was attended to and later transferred to Kitwe Central Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 20:30.

Ben Mwansa has since handed himself over to the police post in Chibolya, and the matter was reported to Constable Tumbama. Eternal rest grant to thee, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon Owen Mumba.

Local residents are in deep shock and praying for the boy who died as they consider this death premature. One of the locals said, “he didn’t even know what made him do that. Let’s pray against the spirit of premature death it was following the boy who sad the father had been used as a tool to end his life.”
