Botswana: The Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture officially received a newly refurbished and equipped Children’s Public Library. The First National Bank of Botswana Foundation (FNBB) was the organization responsible for the donation.
The donation was made through the Botswana National Library on Thursday. The officials of the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture shared images from the donation handover.
This project was inspired by the theme, Building a brighter tomorrow. The donation of a fully functional children’s library will help in encouraging a culture of reading among students.
The members of the Ministry and the First National Bank of Botswana were present at the event.
“Today marked the beginning of a new, brighter future for our children. The future leaders of tomorrow. FNBB Foundation embarked on this journey to positively impact children’s lives and improve their literary skills,” said Atang Modikwa from the FNBB Foundation.
Modikwa reiterated that FNBB Foundation’s intention is to annually donate 1% of its after tax profit. The aim of the donation is to exercise the spirit of voluntarism and philanthropy among FNB leaders. At the same time, it will also to foster children’s literary and technical skills in Botswana through strategic areas. These include:

- Youth Empowerment
- Arts & Culture
- Preservation
- Social Welfare
- Sport
- Recreation
Deputy Permanent Secretary- Library, Archives, Arts and Culture Tebogo Matebesi revealed that initiative is a manifestation of President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s definition of transforming towards knowledge based as well as going digital as evidenced by the ICT equipment that was been donated.
DPS Matebesi encouraged parents to cultivate a culture of reading among children. He further expressed his gratitude upon receiving the refurbished children’s library which came equipped with 22 wooden bookshelves, 15 chairs, 15 gaming boards, 10 laptops and 1 projector.
He expressed his delight and excitement to finally have a helping hand in ushering the younger generation into the tech world as it is the new future. “We believe that this will act as a conducive, life-long learning environment to the community,” concluded Mr Matebesi.
