Nairobi, Kenya: INUA Kike marked the Celebration of the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities Yesterday (Saturday), December 2, 2023 at NYS Headquarters Ground. Several Community-based and Non-Governmental Organisations across Nairobi County joined to celebrate the Day.
The Celebration was made to dedicate and honour the special and disabled communities of the society. The Theme under which the “United in Rescue to achieve SDG’s for with and by persons with disability”.
The event was attended by several delegations from the partnered organizations, guests and county Members early in the morning. The partnered organisations and departments who came together were:
- Nairobi County Gender Sector Working Group
- Disability Sub-Sector Working Group
- State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action,
- National Council for Persons with Disabilities
- INUA KIKE The Action Foundation
- Child Space Organization
- The Bliss Organization
Among other actors and county people came together to unite and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for persons with disabilities.
The Day was concluded with several activities and inspiring speeches by several present delegations and volunteers. The major highlights from the Day were:-
The vibrant caravan kicked off at 7:30 AM!
– Moving procession and guests’ arrival at NYS HQ Grounds.
– Inspiring prayers and anthems by faith leaders.
– Engaging speeches and entertainment.
– Partners including INUA KIKE, The Action Foundation, Republic of Kenya, and Nairobi City County.
While marking the Day, The Inua Kike Organisation expressed their pleasure and thanked all the guests and delegations for attending the Day.
Notably, Every Year, December 3 is recognized as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This day was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations and is now observed worldwide.
The Day is about recognising and encouraging rights of special and disabled communities. It is also celebrated to raise awareness and address the challenges these communities face in all aspects including social, political, economic, cultural life etc.
