The Day 7 Activist of this 16 days of Activism on GBV, Rose L. Kamara is a Baptist Deacon with a big heart for service and community. Her experience with Gender Based Violence forged her path to creating safe spaces for vulnerable people.
She started the Duport Road Community HIV & AIDS Center (DUCHASC) Liberia to provide support to persons with AIDS. Rose L. Kamara, through her network, was able to secure medication and counselling for HIV and AIDS survivors.
Rose expanded her work to women who survived Sexual and Gender-Based Violence. She restored their dignity, provided life skills, including country cloth weaving liquid and bar soap production, and began over six cell support groups for vulnerable women.
These women have a Village Savings and Loan Association that supports them financially and enables them to provide for their families.
Rose is working on a farming Project where vulnerable women and widows grow food and vegetables locally.
She continues to inspire Liberians with her desire to see women thrive and rise above their ordeals.
Reportedly, The Naymote-Liberia also honoured World AIDS Day yesterday. The theme of the day was “Let Communities Lead”, and called all the communities to lead efforts to prevent and respond to HIV & AIDS.
