Zambia: Kitwe district of the Copperbelt Province has reported another case of monkeypox bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four.
Minister of Health Elijah Muchima announced that the new victim was reported as a one year seven month old baby boy. He is likely to have contracted the infection through close contact with an earlier case within the household in Kitwe.
Dr Muchima revealed that the newest victim of the Monkeypox outbreak is at his home in isolation. He is receiving medical care, and is currently in a stable condition. The officials have shared that they have employed teams to help in early symptom detection.
The Ministry of Health said that family remains under home isolation and are recieving support by the hand of medical teams.
Dr Muchima has denied the credibility of the recent claims according to which there are 13 new cholera cases in Lusaka. He said that the claim is wrong and unsubstantial.
The Minister has announced that the nation has 15 reported cases of cholera, which were reported in the Nakonde district in Muchinga Province. Out of this number, 13 patients have been discharged.
The Ministry has confirmed that no new cholera case has been recorded. The last two patients have also been discharged.
The Minister of Health has said that the public members of the community should watch for updates from the Ministry of Health. This will help to avoid unnecessary panic or misinformation.
He said that the situation in Nakonde district is improving significantly. Meanwhile, the government is committed to improving public health through strengthened health measures.
Dr Muchima indicated that the government wants to make continue efforts to manage cholera. Efforts must continue in hotspot districts that are historically prone to outbreaks.
The Ministry of Health has introduced many measures to prevent the spread of Cholera. The measures include door to door chlorine distribution in the affected areas of Ntindi and Katozi in Nakonde.
