Nigeria: The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) seized the cartons of aphrodisiac products and drugs related to sex enhancement which are worth of N12 million in Sokoto State.
Reportedly, NAFDAC Coordinator in the state – Garba Adamu said on Monday that the agency’s patrol team made the seizures during routine patrol operations across markets in Sokoto and environs.
Adamu explained that the products were unregistered and were highly unsafe due to dangerous ingredients that are used in the preparations and are an eyesore because of the blatant use of pornographic pictures on the packages.
However, the coordinator appealed to the public to desist from buying such products from unlicensed premises and only patronize the registered and safe products from the licensed outlets.
He stated that they also call on the general public to always report the hawkers and the dealers of such products to NAFDAC, also reporting the adverse reactions that they may get by intaking such products or any other regulated products.
As per the sources, some marketers are in habit of dumping expired or about-to-expire products in markets in Sokoto and environs, whereas some are taken to border markets and rural areas for the consumption.
Coordinator Adamu cautioned the traders against selling the adulterated, counterfeit, unregistered and expired goods or drugs to the public, while reiterating that NAFDAC would continue the enforcement at all the times.
According to him, the operation was also extended to the agrochemicals and cosmetics stores, as a part of the agency’s efforts to ensure that the quality and right products were in circulation in the markets.
Moreover, he urged Nigerians to always check the NAFDAC registration levels as well as the manufacturing and expiry dates of the items before using them.
The coordinator commended the sister agencies, law enforcement agencies, traders’ associations, individuals and groups for their supports to NAFDAC towards safeguarding the public health.
