South Africa coach – Hugo Broos said that Nigeria will help them qualify for the FIFA World Cup. He said that Nigeria has to win their remaining matches, as South Africa already tops the group so that will work in their favour.
Reportedly, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos said that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will help South Africa to qualify for the 2026 World Cup despite of being rivals in Group-C of the African qualifiers.
South Africa climbed to the top of the group on Saturday after gaining 2-0 win over Lesotho, while Nigeria defeated former joint leaders of Rwanda by the same score-line. The Benin Republic, whose level were on points with South Africa in the previous round of matches, dropped to second after drawing 2-2 with Zimbabwe.
As per the sources, Nigeria is set to face Zimbabwe at home on Tuesday and South Africa is traveling to face Benin Republic on the same day, as the group dynamics could shift if the Super Eagles win and Benin hold South Africa to a draw.
Considering this, SA coach Broos remained unfazed by potential scenario, insisting desperation of Nigeria to win their remaining matches that will actually benefit South Africa, who currently enjoy a four-point lead over the three-time African champions.
The coach – Hugo Broos further added to his statement at the post-match press conference and said, “You know I said a few days ago that there was a team or country in the group who could help us a lot and it is Nigeria. You saw they beat Rwanda today.”
Moreover, they cannot afford themselves anymore to lose points against every team as they will do everything to win and at the moment, when they received four points ahead of Nigeria. Indeed, it is up to them to do what they have to do and when they do that, Nigeria will help them, and all will see.
