Malawi Nkhotakota District Council has handed over the contract to construct a health center in the district. The aim of the handover is to improve healthcare capacity of the district.
The handover of the construction contract was done through the District Health Office over the weekend. Awonenji Building contractors will be responsible for the construction of the much-awaited K267 Million Mwala Wa Tongole Health Centre. The health center will be constructed at Group Village Man Makhanjera, Senior Chief Mphonde in Nkhotakota District.
The Director of Health services for the district Dr Jacob Kafulafula delivered a brief address at the handover ceremony. He said the facility is will help in improving the work of delivering quality health services in the district. The facility will also help the officers to get to the people from hard-to-reach areas like the Mwalawatongole area.
The motivation for the construction of the health center is the addition of quality infrastructure for the benefit of the community. They have shared that many people have to travel long distances to get access to quality healthcare.
The nearest medical healthcare facility with proper equipment and services is the
Nkhotakota District hospital. Community has confirmed that they were waiting for this facility as it will reduce travel time and distances significantly.
Furthermore, Chairperson for Nkhotakota District Council, Counsellor Charles Chimzukuzuku said the Heath Centre project is timely as the community will be able to access quality health services in time.
The project contractor, Awonenji has assured District Council officials and people in the area that they will construct a quality and long-lasting health centre that will conform to contract standards within 120 days as per agreement.
Senior Group Village Headman Aaron James Kahambe has thanked the government for the other infrastructure development in the area. The projects include the great market shed project where the vendors previously selling along the road can conduct their business.
The Market Shed was given to the community at Msenjere Trading Centre under the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) project. The funding for the project came from the World Bank.
