Africa: Walmer High School Grade 12 students were ecstatic to be the first to partake in a career exhibition organized by the Traffic Department this morning at the Sidwell Traffic Department.
Deputy Director for Operations, Eric Tiso, stated during the Expo that the major goal of this program was to educate learners about the many job prospects available within the traffic department.
“We felt it was critical for us to share this information with our communities, particularly the previously disadvantaged ones, to make it clear that being a traffic officer is not only about managing vehicles on the road but there are many other sections that play a vital role in forming the department as a whole,”he said.
“My advice to you is that you must first complete your education, go as far as earning your qualification and driver’s license, and fly as high as you can. Your destiny is in your hands,” said Tiso.
During the Expo, students were given a tour of the department and briefed on the functions of its various units.
Liyema Pokwana, one of the learners that attended, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn more about the numerous careers offered within the department.
“I was quite motivated to see how the department works. I learned a lot,” he said.
“We are grateful to Mr Tiso and the rest of the NMBM executives who welcomed us into their premises. Thank you for picking our school, ” added Pokwana.
Those interested in becoming traffic officers should keep an eye on the NMBM notice board at the Lilian Diedricks building for advertised openings and apply.
Those who are appointed will be sent to the Traffic College for training.
