Cameroonian assistant referee of football – Noupoue Elvis has been selected by FIFA to officiate at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Assistant referee Elvis is the only Cameroonian amongst the 11 African match officials who were selected by FIFA to officially perform at the Olympics.
FIFA is an acronym for the French Federation Internationale de Football Association, which, when translated into English, is the International Association of Football Federation.
Reportedly, Noupou Elvis is selected to serve as an assistant referee and is the only Cameroonian on the list of 89 referees who are newly appointed as match officials.
The officials of soccer matches have selected 21 referees, 42 assistant referees, 20 video match officials and 6 supportive referees from 45 countries for the Olympic football tournament.
Considering this match, the FIFA officials have submitted their statement and said, “The preparation of match officials will be regularly and closely monitored before and during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games by a team of FIFA technical coaches.”
FIFA also stated that the FIFA technical coaches will involve referees and video assistant referee (VAR) instructors, the match analysts, as well as match physical trainers, physiotherapists and sports scientists.
Moreover, FIFA is delighted to announce the appointment of Noupoue Elvis, who will be providing the officials with the best possible advice and support.
As per the sources, the 2024 Paris Olympic football tournament is scheduled to held on July 25, 2024 for women’s football and from July 24, 2024 the men’s football will begin.
Assistant referee Noupoue Elvis will bring a wealth of experience to his role and has officiated various matches in Cameroon’s Elite One Championship top league.
However, Elvis have suffered with a setback in June 2023 when he was provisionally suspended for serious misconduct during the previously held matches of Cameroon Cup.
Elvis has managed to regain his position and after that he was recently appointed as an official for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) in Ivory Coast.
Other than Noupoue Elvis, there are many selected referee officials who will officiate the matches in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Beida Dahane, Ismail Mahmood Ali M and Karboubi Bouchra will officiate as referees. Ahmed Liban Abdoulrazack, Chikotesha Dian, Jermoumi Fatiha, Santos Jerson Emiliano Dos and Yiembe Stephen are selected as assistant referees. Ashour Mahmoud and Benbraham Lahlou are selected as video assistant referees (VAR).
Paris Olympics 2024 will be observed after four years, from Friday, July 26, 2024, to Sunday, August 11, 2024. The last summer Olympics was held in Tokyo, Japan, in 2020.
This time XXXIII Olympiad will be played in summers. The competition will be conducted for total 19 days and on the very first day matches of handball, football and rugby will take place from July 24, 2024.
In total 329 events will be arranged, and will be observed by 206 National Olympic Committees. It will showcase 41 sports and four additional sports. There will be 758 sessions which will be attended by 10,500 athletes.
