Malawi: Hyena attacked a man identified as Enock White, to his death on Sunday night at Nenani village in Traditional Authority Mpando in Ntcheu district. The 52 year old victim had left his work with some of his workmates prior to this attack.
Ntcheu District Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Jacob Khembo confirmed the incident. He said that until his death, the victim was working as a Sawyer at Dzonzi-Mvai Forest Reserve.
On the evening of the incident, he went to drink beer at Dzing’anda trading centre together with his workmates.
“After drinking beer, they started off to their homes, Dzonzi-Mvai, and while on the way, White told his colleagues about his intention to visit relatives the same night at Nenani village and his friends proceeded to their homes.
“But in the early morning of Monday, passers-by discovered a dead body of a male person and reported the matter to the Village Headman Nenani who reported the matter to Kambilonjo Police Unit,” said Khembo.
The police reached the scene of the crime on the morning of Monday. The officers at the scene of the crime were also accompanied by the medical personnel from Dorcas Mission Hospital. The team visited the scene to get evidence and facts.
The postmortem was also conducted for the victim which revealed that death happened due to loss of blood.
Meanwhile, police in the district are advising people to refrain from walking alone during odd hours especially during this season. Notably, many places in the present months can become extremely busy and people should be careful to avoid risking their lives.
The victim was a resident of the Benigolombe village in Traditional Authority Mpando, in Ntcheu district. His death has been a cause of significant shock to the people of the community. The officials have shared that they are urging communities to remain cautious of wild animal attacks especially in the dense bushy areas.
