NxauNxau village celebrates Culture Day event

The communities of Etsha 1, Etsha 6 and Etsha 13 came together in NxauNxau village to celebrate their culture.

Botswana: The communities of Etsha 1, Etsha 6 and Etsha 13 came together in NxauNxau village to celebrate their culture. The celebration of the communities was hosted in collaboration with several government members.

The aim of the celebration was to highlight and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Etsha 1, Etsha 6 and Etsha 13 communities. The organizers of the celebration shared several images from the event on the social media account of the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture.

The Ministry leadership shared the details and glimpses from the celebration. The culture day was held under the theme “Ngwao Mokgwele o o sa orweng/ “Ombazu ezorongodo ndihauotua”.

The theme of the celebration translates to: “Culture is generational and abundant, such that as long as it is well promoted and preserved it will never end.

The Assistant Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture Honest Buti Billy participated in the event on behalf of the Ministry. He delivered a brief address at the event and explained that he understands the NxauNxau village hosts Basarwa, Baherero, Bambukushu and Bayey events.

According to the Assistant Minister preservation of culture is the core responsibility of village leadership.

The responsibility of the administration is detailed in the Bogosi Act of 2008. Furthermore, Billy emphasized that, with a village that has different ethnic groups, there should be unity and the spirit of togetherness.

He believes that the culture gives a sense of pride, unity and most importantly it resembles our beliefs.

The Assistant Minister applauded the youth in the village for not shying away from their culture. He appreciated the youngsters for providing entertainment on the day through their cultural practices.

During his address, he said that the Mindset Change speaks to doing things different and making a positive impact in our lives. He called on the youth to package all the creativity as it is recognized as arts and eventually trade it to sustain themselves.

The culture day was filled with exciting performances from different clubs in the village showcasing different genres of each of the four ethnic groups and the highlight of how they celebrate marriage and birth confinement (botsetsi).
