Kenya: Nyalenda Young Turks, a Community-based Organisation, participated in the 3rd Day of YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2023. The Summit was held on Sunday at Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi County.
The summit focused on Youth Mental, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Right Session and was hosted under the theme “Youth Innovating a Borderless African Renaissance”.
During the 3rd Day session, the youth engaged in several discussions and continued to enjoy the vibrant space to share their ideas and knowledge.
In one of the side event sessions, the youth expounded deeply on mental, sexual and reproductive health.
The matter related to the financial inclusion for the youths through the Hustler’s fund was also a part of the discussion. The Hustler fund will help young people enterprise their skills and innovations, creating jobs.
The panellists largely dwelt on policy gaps and challenges facing young people in Africa. There were also certain economic challenges that were noted at the Event.
Summit addressed the following challenges
- Lack of space to voice out on SRHR and mental health
- Conventional myth that young people don’t need to know anything about the subject
- Omission of PWDs from the discussion and the absence of appropriate youth-focused programs.
The youth were encouraged to take up the advocacy role to create awareness through Community Youth Programs.
They were given the technological challenge of creating platforms and apps that would enable the availability and accessibility of appropriate information about mental health and SRHR.

Reportedly, the Nyalenda Young Turks, A Community-based Organisation in Kisumu County, is based on promoting gender equality in the nation. It also aims to address and eradicate challenges, including:-
- Gender disparities in education and health
- Promote the development of the girl-child as an integral part of sustainable development.
