South Africa: Off- duty police officer of SAPS was arrested for allegedly attempting rape in Paarl Home. The police officer aged 31 was handcuffed on Monday.
Reportedly, the officer of South African Police Services (SAPS) allegedly raped a woman in his home, located in Paarl on Sunday.
As per the narration of the spokesperson to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) – Phaladi Shuping, a woman aged 35 and her male friend met the off-duty police around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, as they were looking for a place to buy alcohol.
The pair then asked the police for a place which sells beer. Following this, three of them went to a certain house where the police officer bought two beers and asked the complainant and her male friend to come to his house.
According the spokesperson Shuping, as both the friends arrive at the house, they drank the beer and the male friend later fell asleep on the couch.
Recorded in the reports, the police officer then allegedly assaulted the woman by putting a knife on her neck and raped her. After a while the policeman went to the bathroom and the woman then somehow woke up her friend and left from there.
After this she reported the incident to the police and IPID took over the charge of the investigation after the suspect was identified as a police officer.
As per the latest reports on the case, the officer cannot be identified yet as he has not found pleaded. However, the off-duty culprit police officer was apprehended on Monday, without any delay and was presented before the law in the Paarl Magistrate Court on Tuesday, this past week.
The investigation of the rape case is still going on and the police officer will appear in the Paarl Magistrate Court, for his next hearing on Tuesday, scheduled for the date July 09, 2024, to proceed with the further process and for a formal bail application.
