Botswana: Orapa Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines has entered into a collaboration with Stepping Stones International. They are working on starting the ‘Coaching Boys into Men’ (CBIM) program. The programme was hosted in Letlhakane and will be targeting 150 young males in the district.
The leaders have shared some images from the event on their social media. The officials have shared that the initiative would help the male population of the nation in garnering the skills that are needed for the nation’s all-around development.
The officials have shared that the initiative is being supported by OLDM with a funding of P1,250,000.00 for 2024. The project is an extension of their ongoing program focusing on skills and equality, which started in 2021.
The launch event included a 3km walk attended by several beneficiaries of the programme supported by OLDM and Stepping Stones. The organizers said that the CBIM aims to prevent violence and address gender-related issues through sports.
OLDM Senior Finance Manager Chipo Petrus was also present at the 3km walk at the beginning of the project. The leaders of the organization said that they want to work together with the community for the success of the organization.
They emphasized the importance of improving young boys’ social skills and providing coping strategies. A representative from the Botswana Police was also a part of the launch event for the programme. The Police representative urged the boys to seek help regarding challenges, particularly concerning the rising gender-based violence statistics.
Community leaders expressed appreciation for OLDM’s efforts to empower the boy child and curb violence. At the same time, the members of the community observed that sports is a significant support to helping raise boys into responsible adults.
Further, Orapa United football Captain encouraged young boys to pursue their talents as a means of discipline and staying out of trouble. The event saw participation from local leadership and sports club representatives.
The Orapa Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines has been helping in the community to support the education and upbringing of the organization.
