Rivers State: Executive Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Onengiyeofori George, has pledged  ₦2,000,000 to support the armed forces of the country. Chairperson George during the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) Celebration.

The event was hosted at the Okumaye Park in Buguma City and included several events to commemorate the event. These include the Emblem Appeal Fund Launching and Remembrance Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony.

During the 2024 Remembrance Day celebration, Executive Chairman Onengiyeofori George appealed to the people of ASALGA to be “peaceful and avoid things that may cause conflicts”. Additionally, he urged Asalgans to “embrace love, unity and work for the good of our land.”

During the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) Celebration, Chairman George said,  “As we remember our Heroes, I want to appreciate all the security agencies in Asalga for always working very closely with the government to provide a safe and secure environment for Asalgans.”

Onengiyeofori George added that his support of a sum of ₦2,000,000 will help the armed forces of Nigeria. He promised to the Nigerian Legion, they will work closely with the forces to make sure that the sacrifices you have offered to our land will not be in vain.”

The Council chairman also promised to offset an outstanding pledge of ₦500,000 while inviting the leadership of the Legionnaires in the LGA for discussions on the change of their uniforms.

In his opening address, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Asari-Toru LGA, Capt. Sokari Braide (Rtd) took time to appreciate the Executive Chairman for his many efforts for the Legionnaires and particularly in making one of their members the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Local Government and engaging several others as Gatekeepers at various Government establishments.

Chief Sokari Braide also poured encomiums on the LGA’s Chief Executive for his peace initiatives, saying, “I wish to salute you for bringing crime and criminality to the barest minimum in the Local Government in general and Buguma in particular”

He extended it to the peace Asalgans enjoyed before, during and after the burial activities of the late Amanyanabo of Kalabari.

Several states and regions of the country celebrated the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day on January 15. The administration of the various states in the country has hosted celebrations in honor of the armed forces of the country.
