Mombasa, Kenya: Over 2,000 kids from across sixty-five Children’s homes in Mombasa received various treats at the Governor’s Children’s Fun Fair. The event was hosted by the Mombasa Sub County Administration at Mbaraki Sports Ground on Wednesday
As per the sources, Children who attended the fair cherished a range of fun moments.
Notably, the kids present at the event experienced numerous joyful activities, such as sumptuous and tasteful meals covering that covered breakfast and lunch. The little ones enjoyed the games and fun rides that mainly included a merry-go-round, bouncing castles, car races by kids, horseback and camel riding, dances to gifts and many others.
Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir attended the event and asked the locals to share and spread love. Cheer each other to develop and grow. He also urged the residents to donate food to the less fortunate people and the needy ones, in the society.
Mentioning the County Government, the Governor also stated that they will extend their support to Children’s homes. The officials will also continue to conduct such funfair activities to cover all children and religious activities in the County for the upcoming months.
The Deputy CECM – Francis Thoya, and other official clerics and leaders were also present at the fair. The day-long event concluded with the cake-cutting ceremony. Various foodstuffs and significant playful items were distributed among the kids of the Children’s home, such as sweets, candies, chocolates, wafers, etc.
Reportedly, the event was led by the Office of the Governor in coordination with the Department of Public Service Administration and Mombasa Sub County Administration.
Mombasa Children’s Home
The Salvation Army Mombasa Children’s Home was established in 1985. It serves the needs of orphans and vulnerable kids, including the ones who were abused and marginalised.
The caretakers at the home ensure that the children are provided with complete love, food, shelter and education within a Christian environment. Earlier, the property was a home for the elder people.
To ensure the well-being of the children, the home has a good staff of nine workers consisting of two cooks, two house mothers, two watchmen and one general worker.
Presently, Captains Kenneth and Beatrice Muriithi are in charge of the home. Under their guidance, the home serves as a safe haven to sixty children, thirty-two girls and twenty-eight boys.
Before graduating from any local primary school, the children here enrol for nursery school at home. For higher education, the Army’s sponsorship office supports them in getting admission to several secondary schools, colleges and universities.
