St. Kitts and Nevis welcomed the Taiwan Navy at Port Zante and marked their first visit to the Federation, in last 23 years. The official welcome ceremony brought together the government leaders and dignitaries in a strong show of friendship and partnership between the two nations.
Reportedly, the Taiwan Navy was received by the Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew himself. He marked this visit as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan). This long-standing bond was built over decades on trust, respect and shared progress.
This historic visit further highlighted the enduring bond, one built on mutual respect, shared values and over four decades of cooperation. Presence of the naval squadron stands as a powerful symbol of unity, diplomacy and continued collaboration across great distances.
Considering this, PM Drew said that he is pleased that the people had the opportunity to board the vessel, meet the crew and experience this exchange firsthand. According to him, these moments matter, a lot, as they broaden horizons, strengthen cultural understanding and remind them that true partnerships are built not only between governments but between people.
Later, PM Drew was accompanied by wife Diani Jimesha Prince-Drew and hosted a special luncheon in honour of the Taiwan Navy Goodwill Mission, during their historic visit to St. Kitts and Nevis.
The formal lunch was held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort. The luncheon brought together the officials and included Resident Taiwanese Ambassador – Edward Ling-Wen Tao and members of the Taiwan Navy’s high command. This underscored the strong diplomatic ties and endured friendship between the two nations.
Prime Minister Drew noted that Taiwan has remained a steadfast partner to St. Kitts and Nevis for over four decades. They collaborated across key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, climate resilience and technology.
He stated that beyond projects and programmes, what has always made this relationship special is its human dimension. For PM Drew, what more valuable is friendship between people, a friendship that values dignity, opportunity and shared prosperity with democracy at its foundation. And that it is why this visit matters for St. Kitts and Nevis so deeply.
Later, an exceptional day of high-level engagement was culminated in a goodwill dinner aboard the Taiwan Navy vessel. It was hosted in honour of officials from St. Kitts and Nevis, including the Governor-General – Dame Marcella Liburd, and Resident Taiwanese Ambassador – Edward Ling-Wen Tao.
