Dominica: The Commonwealth of Dominica has conferred the country’s highest award, the Dominica Award of Honour to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Damodardas Modi. The honor was bestowed on the Prime Minister in acknowledgement and honour of India’s support to the country in the Covid19 Pandemic.
The award was bestowed on the Prime Minister in a ceremony hosted on November 20 in Guyana, by the President of Dominca, Sylvanie Burton. The Prime Minister of Dominica said the award was presented to PM Modi to acknowledge his efforts to deepen bilateral ties between the two nations.
PM Skerrit was proud to collaborate with the leader, whom he called a visionary, and work towards the development of Dominica. In his address at the award event, Roosevelt Skerrit said that the is more than a symbolic gesture.
The highest honor and award of Dominica is a tribute to the legacy of leadership that the Indian Prime Minister is carrying. Skerrit applauded his Indian counterpart for his commitment to humanity, saying that his leadership has a profound impact on many nations, including Dominica.
The Prime Minister has recalled the time of the Covid-19 Pandemic and how India supported the island nation during said time. He highlighted that the support of 70,000 AstraZeneca vaccines was like a lifeline to Dominica.
The Dominican leader acknowledged that this support was more than a simple donation and proved that true leadership is not bound by borders. The support from India not only helped Dominica protect their own people, but also support their neighbours in the Caribbean.
Skrrit also highlighted India’s commitment to the South – South Unity and overall development He believes that the Indian Prime Minister’s leadership, defined by decisive action and a visionary approach that inspires the world
Modi led administration has helped India make many strides in healthcare, capacity-building, Information technology and infrastructure. PM Skerrit highlighted that these efforts are proof that progress should be inclusive.
Skerrit also highlighted the International initiatives which India had spearheaded, including International Solar Alliance. The project has helped the world in championing Renewable energy and allowed nations like dominica to work for sustainability.
He asserted that Dominica is currently standing at the frontlines of the climate crisis and India’s efforts in advocacy for climate finance justice aligns perfectly with the mission of Dominica. Dominica is on the path to become the first ever climate resilient nation in the world.
The lead and support of India has been a source of inspiration for Dominica. As such, he thanked Prime Minister Modi for his exemplary leadership and hoped the relationship between the two nations can continue to strengthen.
Concluding his address, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit thanked PM Narendra Modi for his efforts to uplift humanity.
