Saint Lucia: The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre has travelled to Bahamas for the AFREXIM Bank’s 31st Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM). The meeting which is currently being hosted in Bahamas commemorates the establishment of their office in Barbados.
PM Pierre left for the venue of the annual meeting in Nassau Bahamas on June 12. During his trip, the Prime Minister has met with several leaders of the CARICOM and the reprsentatives of the African Union and other leaders.
The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia took to his social media to share the glimpses of the event. He highlighted that the meeting seeks to strengthen and expand Africa-Caribbean trade and investments relations.
The leaders of the economic centers of Africa, including Nigeria were present at the event. The leader shared his experience from the day one of the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum.
On the first day of the 31st Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM),PM Pierre met Aliko Dangote. Notably, he is Africa’s richest person who is the founder and chair of Dangote Group, a multinational industrial conglomerate.
The meeting with the industrial conglomerate and businessman was a highlight of the day for the Saint Lucian Prime Minister. He discussed the formation of business and investment bonds between the company and Saint Lucia.
The Dangote Group is the largest conglomerate in West Africa and one of the largest on the African continent. The company is engaged in a number of initiatives including the cement manufacturing, sugar refining.
The other activities of the business include salt refining and seasonings, packaging materials, port operations, food and beverages, and transportation. Furthermore, the company also manufactures fertilizer, uria and phosphate, all key elements in growth of agricultural crops.
PM Philip J Pierre highlighted that they discussed the creation of an environment to exchange ideas and grow collaborations. He wants them to work together in terms of tourism development, energy supply for the Caribbean, growth of high value crops and the diversification of our economy.
During this trip PM Pierre also met with Babajide Sanwo Olu, Governor of Lagos State. He is accompanying Darrel Montrope, Consul General in Miami for his trip to Bahamas.
