Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit also serving as a Chairman of the National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO) held a meeting on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, with Sub-Committee Leaders to evaluate the preparedness of the island nation for the ongoing 2025 hurricane season.
Recently, it was officially stated that the session concentrated on assessing sector readiness, coordinating emergency response strategies and implemented measures to safeguard lives and property.
Moreover, leaders from several departments provided various updates involving the Office of Disaster Management, the Meteorological Service, Health, Welfare and Relief Supplies, Shelter, Food and General Supplies, Environmental Protection, Transportation and Evacuation. It also included the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Service, the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force and utility providers.
According to the report released, Prime Minister Skerrit emphasized that the critical need for teamwork and proactive planning is to ensure an efficient and coordinated national response during the hurricane season.
Considering this, PM Skerrit shared glimpses from the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and said that, on Tuesday, in his capacity as Chair of the National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO), he convened a meeting of Sub-Committee Heads to review Dominica’s preparedness for the 2025 hurricane season and to reinforce the government’s commitment to a coordinated and effective emergency response.
He mentioned that the discussion was completely concentrated on the readiness of the sectors, in order to make all aware and coordinate the emergency response plans and the measures in place to safeguard lives and property of the people.
The comprehensive reports received from various departments in the meeting solved the purpose of the gathering and highlighted the significance of staying prepared for any natural calamity which could occur soon, during the ongoing hurricane season.
