Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met with President of Nigeria – Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the special joint sitting of Parliament in Saint Lucia. There the OECS leaders gathered for a working lunch to discuss practical ways to deepen cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean.
PM Skerrit shared photographs from the meeting on his official social media handle and expressed that he had the honor of attending a special joint sitting of Parliament in Saint Lucia which was held in order to give tribute to the President of Nigeria.
Reportedly, Prime Minister of Dominica – Roosevelt Skerrit followed the Sitting, as the OECs Heads of Government and Ministers convened for a working lunch with President Tinubu to explore deeper cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean.
PM Skerrit highlights that Dominica fully supports the advancement of Africa-Caribbean relations. He mentioned that together they can chart a path towards greater economic opportunity and social progress for the people.
During his visit to Saint Lucia to meet Nigerian President Tinubu, Skerrit claimed that it is important for the Caribbean region and Africa to come up together for more projects. He emphasized that the two regions have several similar cultures and shared histories of colonial rule and slavery.
Prime Minister Skerrit asserted that they want to come up with many ways to deepen the collaboration between the two regions. According to him, such decisions are made to organize the 2026 edition of the Afri-Caribbean trade and investment forum, which is also a part of the same initiative.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s visit to Saint Lucia along with other OECS leaders is expected push forward discussions to begin with projects and initiatives that can benefit majorly with both the Caribbean and Nigeria in equal measure to maintain their strengthened relationship.
The sitting was hosted in honor of the state visit of the Nigerian President Tinubu as PM Skerrit also visited for Afreximbank’s 32nd Annual General Meeting in Nigeria. The meeting was hosted last week in Abuja, with the aim of improving economic partnership between Africa and the Caribbean. The leaders of the OECS have shared that they were delighted to have the opportunity to interact with the President of Nigeria.
