Dominica: Dr Roosevelt Skerrit recently met with the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio on May 6 during his trip to Washington DC. The Prime Minister appreciated the US Secretary of State for his meeting with the leaders of the Caribbean.
The discussion that the Prime Minister held with the US Secretary of State centered around the economy and development avenues of the country. The Prime Minister shared that he was accompanying the Prime Ministers of OECS and Bahamas.
He highlighted that the aim of the meeting was to enhance the discussing the issues of mutual edition. The representatives who were at the meeting have shared that it is important for the Caribbean region to make sure that they have a good relationship with US.
The Prime Minister discussed issues of regional security in the Caribbean. He is also dedicated to promoting economic progress of the region. He highlighted that they will also shared they will work on providing assistance for long-term development in SIDS.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Vince Henderson was also present at the meeting. Current Chairman of OECS Authority, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J. Pierre led the OECS delegation.
Prime Minister of Dominica highlighted that during the meeting, security was one of the most important discussions. PM Skerrit said that the meeting was constructive and informative.
The two leaders discussed areas of economic cooperation, migration issues, security cooperation. The Prime Minister of the country have shared that it is important for the SIDS to have the support and encouragement.
Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit discussed the role of the OECS authority to make sure that the interests of member states are met. The meeting is proof of the fact that the leaders are dedicated to having the voice of the small island states being heard.
The Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security, Dr. Irving McIntyre served as acting Prime Minister of the country in the absence of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
