Dominica: The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit has extended his best wishes to the Dominican athlete, Thea Lafond. She has created history for the island of Dominica and secured the first gold medal for the country.
Lafond represented the country in the World Athletics Indoor Championship 2024 which was held in Glasgow. The event was hosted from the 1st to the 3rd of March, 2024 where she won the women’s triple jump with 15.01m.
The Prime Minister was proud of the athlete’s achievement. She made her international debut almost a decade ago. The athlete has been representing the country at international events worldwide.
She has made her nation proud with the historic achievement she recorded in the athletic event in Scotland. Thea has claimed the first-ever World title for Dominica and defeated many of her competitors by a significant margin.
PM Skerrit took to his social media accounts to share the proud moment with the people of the country. He claimed that the whole country is celebrating the achievement of the athlete.
Meanwhile, Minister of housing and Urban Development, Melissa Skerrit has also expressed pride and appreciation to the young athlete. She shared several images from Thea’s winning moment in Glasgow.
Further, the achievement of the Dominican athlete was recognized by several leaders in the region. The people across the Caribbean are celebrating the remarkable feat which Lafond has achieved.
