Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit recognise the progressing work of the Thibaud Primary School which is going to be a centre of continuous education. On his visit to the site on Thursday, Dec 04, 2025 observed the construction work of the school.
The Thibaud Primary School is one of the five primary schools and overall six schools are being constructed by the Government of the People’s Republic of China as part of the Chinese aid program. The schools are being constructed to curb the devastation caused by the Hurricane Maria and are climate resilient.
Prime Minister Skerrit said that the community is looking forward to receive the completion of the school and the students that can move into the school. He said that the school has taken into consideration like all other schools in Dominica and is under construction.
For these schools they need teachers, need principal, need students and also need a wider community. As it is a community school, he hopes that these are being built in a way that they can turn it into continuous education centres where they can have night classes for other adults.
With these schools they aim to make better use of their investment from 09:00 a.m. to 03:00 p.m. for five days a week. Upon its completion, the school will be named after the former parliamentary representative – Vernice Bellony, considering her contributions made for the development of this constituency.
Chinese Ambassador to Dominica – Chu Maoming said that their aim is to give the students a better environment to learn. He stated that they want the contractors, the CCECC to develop and cultivate the good relationship with the communities. They have to make friends with the local people, and this beautiful school will also provide a better place for the children to study. The management and workers are doing great job.
Ambassador Maoming thanked the Government of Dominica to show its support. The is going to be a centre of excellence for special education. Education Minister Octavia Alfred said that she is pleased with the emphasis that this school is being built for the students with special needs and disabilities.
Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education – Fenella Wenham-Sheppard said that by creating a learning space for students with special needs, the government has re-affirmed its belief that every child is critical to development of Dominica.
