Zambia: Malambo Constituency Member of Parliament Peter Phiri has announced that the government has started the road rehabilitation in Mambwe district. He claimed that the government is aware of the significant issue that the situation of the roads poses for the people.

He acknowledged that the situation of the roads is extremely bad in Mambwe District. The situation of the roads in the district has been disrupting travel and movement from one place to another.

The parliamentary representative also highlighted that the bad roads are not only the problem of the Mambwe district. It is an ongoing crisis for many communities and districts in the country and has become a problem for travellers.

He asserted that they have already started to work on the rehabilitation of the road project in Mambwe district. He shared some details on the developments that have already taken place in the district.

MP Phiri said earth moving equipment has already been procured using the Malambo Constituency Development Fund. The equipment is getting ready for the roads of the district to be worked on.

He acknowledged that the district cannot keep relying on the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development.  They are not the only authorities responsible for working on all the roads in the district.

He made these remarks in light of the fact that the local authority had the machinery and manpower to do so.

Phiri announced in a media interview that some short- distance township roads were being worked on. The construction is happening before works could be commenced on long-distance roads such as the Ncheka- Chipako road and other roads in Msoro Ward.

He said the long-distance roads such as the Malama Chikhunto road is in a very deplorable state. He highlighted that the work on the roads will start before the onset of the rains.

Further, Phiri further disclosed that the Road Development Agency was also working towards putting up a bridge at Lupande river in Chipako Ward.
