South Africa, Limpopo: Limpopo Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba will lead a team of medical and dental specialists who will be rendering services at hospitals in the Sekhukhune District from 28th March to 03rd April 2023.
The Rural Health Matters outreach programme stands to benefit people from disadvantaged communities. It is through this programme that rural hospitals increase local access and allow patients to focus on getting better rather than getting to appointments.
The team includes but is not limited to Paediatrics Surgeons, Ophthalmologists, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, Radiologists, Gynecologists, Orthopaedics Surgeons, Urologists, ENT Surgeons, Obstetricians & Gynecologists, Maxillo Facial Surgeons, Anaesthesiologists, Physicians, Hand and Micro Surgery Specialists, and General Surgeons who will spend the whole week clearing surgical and medical backlogs, transferring skills and expose specialists to the entire province.
The team of specialists will be stationed in the following hospitals :

* Philadelphia Hospital
* Matlala Hospital
* Jane Furse Hospital
* Mecklenburg Hospital
* Dilokong Hospital
* Groblersdal Hospital
Moreover, Over the past two days, Sekhukhune District has kickstarted the rural health matters outreach campaign by conducting Wound Care and Management training.
The aim of Wound care and Management training is to equip practitioners with knowledge on Holistic Care of patients with wounds.
The training covers topics such as infection control and hand hygiene and wounds, wound irrigation, cleansing and swabbing, and a structural approach to wound bed preparation while also introducing the likes of Honey dressings and Copper Dressings.
The knowledge and skills should help in the treatment and management of post surgical wounds, vascular wounds, Diabetic wounds, and traumatic wounds, whether the wound has an infection, is exudating or is stagnant.
Practitioners are urged through the training to engage in evidence based practice and conduct research in wound care and management within their respective institutions.
