American singer Selena Gomez shared an overwhelmed expression on her social media handle on Monday, Jan 27, 2025. She posted an emotional video on her Instagram Story, in which she can be seen as broke down in tears over US President Donald Trump’s latest immigration crackdown.
Reportedly, the video has been deleted now, in which the Emilia Perez star, Gomez explained her anguish over the ongoing situation and said, “All my people are getting attacked, the children.”
“I don’t understand. I’m sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t,” said Selena. She expressed that she really desire to help the people in need and will provide every kind of help if possible. She said sobbing, “I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

As the video goes viral, she quickly deleted the clip and later shared another post on her Instagram story, that seemingly responded to the backlash. The caption over the new video read, “Apparently, it’s not okay to show empathy for people.”
Selena received continuous backlash for expressing her support for immigrants and cried on the behalf of the ones who are actually facing it. She has been vocal supporter of immigration rights for years.
In 2019, she produced the Netflix docuseries Living Undocumented that highlighted the challenges faced by undocumented families in the US. Gomez’s post came just one day after the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carried out a major nationwide operation.
During the operation, ICE arrested 956 individuals marking the largest such crackdown since Donald Trump assumed the office again. As per ICE sources, the arrests were part of several operations conducted over the weekend with 286 individuals who were arrested on Saturday, 593 on Friday and 538 on Thursday.
Despite of the recent surge in arrests, data collected from the Migration Policy Institute revealed that the administration of the former President Joe Biden conducted 1.5 million deportations during the first term.
Selena Gomez is born and brought up in Texas. She has consistently embraced and celebrated her Mexican roots. Four years ago in 2021, she released her debut Spanish EP ‘Revelacion’ and appeared in a short film for the Artist Spotlight Stories, where she openly shared her experiences growing up with Mexican heritage and explored history of her family.
Putting light on her profession, Gomez has been recently starred in the musical film Emilia Perez, that tell tales the story of a fictional Mexican drug cartel. The film grabbed significant attention earning 13 Oscar in its accolade.
